Concert pays tribute to Palace Museum's centennialBy Chen Nan | chinadaily.com.cnUpdated: 04:09 PM (GMT+8) Oct 13, 2025![]() The China National Symphony Orchestra, in collaboration with the Palace Museum in Beijing, presented a concert at the Beijing Concert Hall on Saturday, marking the 100th anniversary of the museum. The grand symphonic celebration, created to commemorate a century since the museum's establishment, featured world premieres of two significant works by renowned composer Tang Jianping, conducted by celebrated maestro Hu Yongyan. The concert's musical narratives offered a vivid portrayal of the Palace Museum's century-long history and its role in preserving the legacy of Chinese civilization. ![]() The composition was built around nine distinct musical sections, using a rich orchestral palette — strings creating light and fluid textures, brass evoking grandeur, and woodwinds lending delicate nuance — to vividly capture the museum's architectural beauty, the intricate details of its treasured artifacts, and the ever-changing seasons within the architectural wonder. In the second half of the concert, the Third Symphony: A Tribute to the 100th Anniversary of the Palace Museum soared into more abstract, philosophical territory. The work framed the concept of the "heroic" not as an individual, but as the collective strength of the Chinese people, whose enduring spirit and cultural legacy have been preserved through centuries. Using a blend of modern harmonic tension and traditional five-note scales, the composition conveyed both the timelessness and the evolution of the Chinese cultural spirit, achieving a profound fusion of national identity and symphonic artistry. ![]() ![]() If you have any problems with this article, please contact us at app@chinadaily.com.cn and we'll immediately get back to you. |
